Well, Hello!

Hey there! I’m Beth Hayden. I live just outside Boulder, Colorado, and I’m a content writer and marketing consultant who creates blog posts, e-books, emails, white papers, and case studies for clients.

One of my specialties is working for technology companies, and I love learning about complex topics and being able to translate geek-speak into approachable content.

I also have bipolar disorder and ADHD.

I’m a former staff writer for Copyblogger, one of the largest content marketing sites on the web.

I started working for myself in 2006, and since then I’ve pivoted several times. Over the years, I’ve been:

  • A blogging teacher and coach

  • A Pinterest marketing expert (I even wrote a book on Pinterest marketing called Pinfluence)

  • An online marketing teacher (including launching classes, presenting webinars, and doing tons of public speaking)

But since 2017, I’ve been a full-time content writer for companies and individuals, and that’s my bread and butter now.

Why “The Roller Coaster”?

Running a business is a wild ride filled with thrills, chills, and unpredictable twists and turns — just like living with bipolar disorder.

The highs take our breath away. The lows turn our stomachs. But we keep climbing back on and buckling up.

There are peaks we can't control and valleys we didn't see coming. All we can do is learn to ride out the ups and downs — together.

At The Roller Coaster, we'll share stories and strategies from our own personal amusement parks. And my hope is that we’ll all discover (or re-discover) that while the track is bumpy, the rush and the view make it all worthwhile.

On the Personal Side

I’m a divorced mom of a 21-year-old son who attends Colorado State University. He’s a math and science geek, and an engineering major (he didn’t get it from me — clearly, I’m strictly a word nerd). On this blog, I’ll refer to my kiddo as “The Blond One.”

I grew up in Pennsylvania and attended Penn State as a History major. I had a lot of fun singing in an a cappella group called The Pennharmonics during my collegiate years.

Other quick fun facts about me:

  • My dog Moose (a Coton de Tulear) needs about 7,000 walks a day, and we’re out there like postal workers — rain, snow, sunshine, or sub-zero temps.

  • I’m a movie lover, and every year I try to watch all the Oscar-nominated movies. I even print out a dorky checklist.

  • I read a lot. Like, a lot. You can listen to a lot of audiobooks when you’re taking 7,000 walks a day.

  • My current favorite podcasts are This American Life, Happier with Gretchen Rubin, Heavyweight, Revisionist History, and Criminal.

  • I dig modern pop music, including the Jonas Brothers, Ellie Goulding, and Lauv, and my work playlists are loaded with music I’ve stolen from The Blond One.

  • I believe in magic, serendipity, and the Oxford comma.

Why Join as a Paying Subscriber?

You can follow along for free, but to get the most out of The Roller Coaster, consider signing up as a paying subscriber. Here’s what you get:

  • You can unlock and read all posts. You’ll get two a week: One long(ish) and one bite-sized.

  • You can also comment on any of the posts here (and see other people’s comments). The comments section will only be open to paying subscribers because I know these are sensitive conversations, and I want everyone to feel safe. This will be a protected place where you can talk about the stuff that’s on your mind.

  • I’ll also hold a monthly Zoom gathering where you can ask me pretty much anything, and connect with one another.

I’m creating a wonderful, caring community for only $7 a month— in my neck of the woods, that’s the price of a large cappuccino at Starbucks (I refuse to say Venti!)

If you’re not quite ready for that, you’re welcome to stay on as a free subscriber and you’ll receive one bite-sized post a week in your inbox (but comments will be behind the paywall).

Welcome aboard! I’m so glad you’re here!
